SEIU’s Sáenz: Third Muslim ban is a continuation of the same discriminatory racist original ban

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to President Trump’s new Muslim Ban 3.0 that now includes 8 countries, Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Chad, North Korea and Venezuela, SEIU International Executive Vice President and iAmerica Action President Rocio Sáenz issued the following statement:

“President Trump continues to pursue racist and discriminatory policies against immigrants and communities of color. This new attack on our Muslim brothers and sisters is a continuation of the same discriminatory racist ban we first saw one week after Trump’s inauguration. He has consistently proposed policies that embody the ugly, discriminatory rhetoric of his campaign trail.

“This expansion of the Muslim ban is another attempt by President Trump to perpetuate anti-immigrant, anti-refugee, and anti-Muslim stereotypes. By adding two non-Muslim countries, president Trump thinks he can fool the American people and disguise his bias, bigotry, and discriminatory policies that violate the Constitution and disrespect our country’s history, laws, and values. The cruel reality is that this will impact individuals who contribute so much to our community safety, strength, and overall well-being.

“The American people see through these fear-mongering tactics and stand with all communities, as they stood with Muslims when Trump implemented his Muslim ban. SEIU stands united against discrimination and racism and will continue to fight these policies and hold the administration accountable for as long as it takes.”
