000 Gas Explosion

SEIU members from locals 1199, 509, 888, 32BJ SEIU and SEIU Community Action are helping the recovery efforts and delivering meals to families affected by a series of gas explosions that struck Lawrence, Andover, and North Andover, Mass in mid-September. More than 80 homes were damaged by fires and explosions; one person was killed and dozens of others were injured.

Families are now able to return to their homes but there is still no gas for stoves, hot water or heat for many residents in the area. More than 8,600 gas customers could go without service for months, while workers rebuild and repair key infrastructure. SEIU has strong ties to the area and members are committed to helping families affected by this calamity.
