SEIU's Saenz: Supreme Court can bring immigrant families closer to justice

WASHINGTON, DC – In response to the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the appeal of the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ decision blocking President Obama’s immigration executive actions, SEIU International Vice President Rocio Saenz issued the following statement:

“There is no doubt in our minds that DAPA and DACA are on the right side of justice. The politically motivated lawsuit that halted these initiatives, along with the sheer number of attacks against Latino and immigrant communities, is personal and impacts real people. Our families, our neighbors, parents and children, young immigrants – all of whom call America their home – are waiting for a chance to live without the fear of being torn apart.

“And while it’s important that Supreme Court review the case against DAPA and DACA, we must vote – the future of immigration reform is in our hands. We will continue to defend DACA+ and DAPA, in the streets and at the ballot box. Our message to extremists like Donald Trump, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, who are competing for our vote while at the same time promising to repeal DAPA and DACA, is -- we will not forget in November. We will remember who stood in the way of families and who stood against our families.

"Whatever the court does, we will not stop organizing voters and engaging in this debate until we elect a president who shares the values our country was built on."
