Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Executive Vice President Leslie Frane issued the following statement following the Senate’s passage of the budget resolution

WASHINGTON, DC – “The budget resolution passed by Senate Republicans today is not policy – it is an assault on working people. This attack will take healthcare from millions, steal food from children by gutting SNAP, slash research and higher education, and pour money into ICE to terrorize families and tear apart our communities. This isn’t fiscal responsibility — it’s cruelty dressed up as governance. Families suffer, while billionaires walk away with more tax breaks.

There is no compassionate or responsible way to take healthcare away from 17 million people—children, seniors, veterans, working moms and dads, people with disabilities. Cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act aren’t just numbers on a page—they’re attacks that will hurt every community in America. They will rob people of access to care, deepen racial and economic inequalities, throw state budgets into chaos, cut healthcare jobs, and raise the price of healthcare for everyone. Families will be pushed to the brink and workers will be forced out of the jobs that keep people safe and healthy. The cruelty of this moment is compounded by the rising cost of living and widespread job insecurity.

Republicans in Congress have made their priorities clear. This bill is the largest transfer of wealth from working people to the rich in our nation’s history. It's anti-worker, anti-immigrant, anti-environment—and it does nothing to lower prices or improve lives. SEIU members across the country are watching, organizing, and rising. This fight is not over, because we believe in healthcare justice, and we will continue to fight, unified, for that vision.”
