In the United States, most of us believe voters should pick our leaders. We believe every eligible voter should be able to vote, and that every vote should count.
But President Trump and Republicans in Congress are set on keeping us from voting.
They want to seize more power, and sabotaging our elections and destroying our voting rights are how they’re trying to do it.
It’s no secret Trump’s approval rating is down, and his administration knows they’re losing.
As a result, they're trying to control the outcome of elections for the foreseeable future. The House has passed several versions of the SAVE America Act, which seeks to mandate harsh voter ID policies and unreasonable proof of citizenship. These types of policies make it harder to vote, especially for working people who don’t have the flexibility to take time off work to deal with paperwork, replace and update documents, or navigate bureaucratic hurdles. Trump is banking on the SAVE America Act to “guarantee the midterms” for Republicans.
And as the Trump Administration plots new restrictive voting laws, the Supreme Court is weighing a case that would gut the Voting Rights Act altogether.
Restricting voting isn’t democracy. Simple as that. We know that a legitimate political party’s job is to earn your vote and trust, whereas an authoritarian administration aims to keep you from voting. We won’t accept the latter.
