How to Get Involved
In order to build a stronger union equipped to organize on a larger scale, take on systemic racism, and confront corporate power, we need more SEIU members leading fights, building teams, and organizing more workers into our union.
To learn more, visit the website for your SEIU Local and look for contact information, or ask your steward at work! You can find your Local website by clicking here.
There are Many Ways to Get Involved:
Organize Non-Union Workers
When more workers in our industries are union members, we have more power to win and defend strong contracts. The bigger and more active our union is, the higher wages and benefits will be for all.
Political Organizing
Our success in building and wielding political power to advocate for our interests depends on our ability to mobilize our fellow members and communities. There are lots of ways to get involved in our union's political and legislative organizing work, and it's crucial even when there's not an election underway.
Become a Steward
Stewards are problem solvers, educators, communicators, and worksite leaders. As a steward, you're the one your fellow members turn to with their problems. You work with union officers, who count on you to help them keep in touch with your co-workers. And you're the one who's not afraid to speak up to management.
Help With a Rally
Help organize rallies, vigils, work actions, petitions, parades, demonstrations, and other activities. Big parades and demonstrations also require marshals. (Wear comfortable shoes. Trust us on this one.)
Advocate for Racial Justice
Black, white, Latinx, and Asian working people all do better when we join together to have a say in what happens on the job and in our communities. In the labor movement, we say, 'an injury to one is an injury to all.' That's true on the job, and it's true when members of our community are facing discrimination or violence because of the color of their skin or the language they speak. Through your union, you can help lead the fight for justice for ALL.
Sign Up New Hires
New employee orientations are the best opportunity we have to educate new hires about our union and sign them up. And the bigger our union, the more power we have when advocating for ourselves and our communities at the bargaining table, at the ballot box, or in the streets. Folks are brand new to the job and they might not know anything about what it means to be a union member.
